I have been notified by my County Treasurer that there is a hold on my vehicle registration because of unpaid Iowa fines. How do I remedy this?

The simplest solution is to pay any amounts due at the Clerk of Court’s office and to advise the Clerk that you need the registration hold on that case(s) released.  You will then need to take the zero-balance receipt(s) to the County Treasurer.

If you are unable to pay in full, you may contact the County Attorney’s Office in order to arrange a payment plan (Wage Assignment, Auto Bill Pay, Payment Plan). Once your plan is established and the initial payment is made, the County Attorney’s Office can provide the release of tags to the appropriate county.  The release is good for 10 days.  If you have a balance due, you will need a release.  No release will be given on a promise to pay.   You will not be given a release in subsequent years unless all payments are current.

Please note: The County Attorney can only release a registration hold which has been imposed for amounts due in his/her county. If there are unpaid fines in more than one county, a release will need to be arranged in each county (unless they are included in a CAPP).

My driving privileges are suspended. Can the County Attorney's Office help me get my license back?

The Collections Administrator will request your driving record from the DOT and a Financial Affidavit will need to be completed. The Financial Affidavit is available on this site, or in the Warren County Attorney’s Office, located at 115 N Howard, Suite 200, Indianola, IA 50125.   Once the DOT report is received, the Collections Administrator will notify you of the next steps.  If you are barred or revoked until a future date, this program will NOT enable you to obtain a license.  You will need to contact the Iowa DOT at 515-244-9124 for a temporary work permit. This program is designed to aid those individuals who are suspended strictly for non-payment of Iowa fines.

I received a notification from the DOT that my license will be suspended, but I am on a plan with the County Attorney’s Office. What do I need to do?

Contact the Warren County Attorney’s Office and inform them of the Notice to Suspend.  They will take the necessary steps to notify the DOT that you are on a plan, which will lift the suspension notice (if processed before the suspension date).

Can I bundle all of my fines from multiple counties and set up one payment plan?

Fines can be combined only IF they are holding your license and a Driver’s License Reinstatement Plan is implemented.  If the fines are not holding your license, you will need to enter into an agreement with each County where fines are owed.
