Aging Resources of Central Iowa Advisory Council

By-Laws of Aging Resources of Central Iowa: The Advisory Council will serve as advocates with and for the older citizens of central Iowa. The Board of Supervisors shall appoint two persons within the guidelines of the by laws set forth by Aging Resources of Central Iowa. Meets the second Thursday every other month at 1:00 p.m.

Iowa Code Chapter 335 and Warren County Ordinance 43.06: The Board of Adjustment is appointed by the Board of Supervisors to: hear appeals of decisions rendered by zoning administrators. interpret unclear provisions in the zoning ordinance. decide on applications by landowners to permit buildings or land uses which vary from the zoning regulations. Meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Warren County Administration Building. The Board consists of five members, a majority of whom shall reside within the county but outside the corporate limits of any city, each to be appointed for a term of five years.

Iowa Code Chapter 137: The Board of Health is appointed by the Board of Supervisors to: Enforce state health laws and the rules and lawful orders of the state department. The Board is responsible for policy and program direction of public health service for the county. Also, for handling environmental problems on the local and state level for the residents of Warren County. Meets the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m., at the Warren County Administration Building. The Board consists of five members each serving a three-year term. At least one member shall be licensed as a physician under chapter 148.

Central Iowa Community Services Advisory Board (CICS)

This Board controls the management of the CICS MH/DS system in a ten-county region. Meets the fourth Thursday of each month at the Story County Administration Building in Nevada, Iowa. The board consists of ten members. One from each county in the region. (Boone, Franklin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper, Madison, Marshall, Poweshiek, Story, Warren) and is an annual term.

This Board maintains an agreement with the Des Moines Area MPO for support services in executing its transportation planning responsibilities. Child Welfare Decategorization Executive Committee (DeCat)

IAC 441-153.12 Governance Board (decategorization), “A decategorization project shall be implemented by a decategorization governance board. a. The department director shall ensure that each decategorization project has an operating governance board that includes: (1) Representatives designated by administrators of the department and of juvenile court services; and (2) Officials with the authority to represent county government in the affected county or counties. The Indianola DCAT Governance Board meets in person about 4-5 times for one-hour meetings (including the Board Thank You Lunch at Wildwood Hills Ranch) and 4-5 times per year for 10 minutes Phone Board meetings each year to meet mandatory requirements of State Contracts and vote on Contract Actions for Madison, Marion and Warren Counties. Iowa Code Chapter 341A: The Civil Service Commission is appointed by the Board of Supervisors to: Regulate the employment and working conditions of civil servants, oversee hiring and promotions, and promote the values of the public service. Compensation Board

Iowa Code Chapter 331.905: The county Compensation Board annually shall review the compensation paid to comparable officers in other counties of this state, private enterprise, and the federal government to make recommendation for salaries for elected officials. Meets at the call of the chairperson at a location designated by the chairperson. The Board consists of seven members. Two appointed by the Board of Supervisors. One member shall be appointed by each of the following county officers: Auditor, Attorney, Recorder, Treasurer, and Sheriff, with four-year staggered terms.

Iowa Code Chapter 441: The Conference Board serves as the governing board for the office of assessor. The conference board has the responsibility of appointing members of the examining board, members of the board of review, and the assessor.

Condemnation Compensation Commission

Iowa Code Chapter 6B.4: The Chief judge of the judicial district or the chief judge’s designee shall select by lot six persons from the list, who shall constitute a compensation commission to assess the damages for legal proceedings. Annually the board of supervisors of a county shall appoint not less than twenty-eight residents of the county and the names of such persons shall be placed on a list and they shall be eligible to serve as members of a compensation commission. One-fourth of the persons appointed shall be owner-operators of agricultural property, one-fourth of the persons appointed shall be owners of city property, one-fourth shall be licensed real estate salespersons or real estate brokers, and one-fourth shall be persons having knowledge of property values in the county by reason of their occupation, such as bankers, auctioneers, property managers, property appraisers, and persons responsible for making loans on property

Conservation Board

Iowa Code Chapter 350: The Board of Supervisors appoints the Conservation Board which is responsible for acquiring and managing real and personal property for conservation and recreation purposes, and for the development of conservation and recreation programs within the county. Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)

This is a regional transportation planning entity comprised of local communities and transportation agencies in the Des Moines, Iowa, develops both long- and short-range multi-modal transportation plans. They select and approves projects for federal funding based upon regional priorities, and develops methods to reduce traffic congestion in metropolitan region. Wastewater Reclamation Authority (WRA)

The Des Moines Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation Authority is made up of 17 metro area municipalities, counties and sewer districts. Iowa Code Chapter 317.3: The Board of Supervisors appoints the county weed commissioner. The purpose is to identify noxious weeds and the recognized methods for noxious weed control and elimination.
